Welcome to Spain

On the 10th August we made sail from Alicante to Palma de Mallorca, 160 nautical miles and a 24 hour trip under calm conditions. However, with 25-30 knot northeasterlies coming at us we were met with 3 metre waves and a boisterous breeze.
We knew that after the initial few hours of ‘suffering’ we would be through the worst of it and eventually meet calmer waters to nurse us to our destination. Below are some images from the delivery that culminated in some sun-kissed days of PR in the Bay of Palma.

Memories from Argentario

We have just sailed from Porto Santo Stefano to Sant Feliu De Guixols on the Costa Brava of Spain ready for an intensive PR program. The sail took 3 days and we were blessed with calm seas, some wonderful sunrises and sunsets and a whale sighting.

Updates from the harbour

Having had a successful week at the Panerai event in Antibes with Eilean going that little bit faster we are out today sail training for Argentario Sailing Week. Some breeze today we hope that it holds for the coming days.

Another seasons is about to begin

Late last week Eilean was hauled up the slip of Del Carlo shipyard in Viareggio in preparation for a paint job before our first regatta of the season at Les Voiles D’Antibes. Everything is go as we count the days before we set our sails and spread our wings for the south of France.

The sailing season is about to begin

As is often the case for Eilean at this time of year we are engaged in a whole lot of maintenance. We have taken 50+ blocks off the boat, have taken each one of them apart and given the inside workings a careful inspection. The ash wood cheeks are all sanded and given a number of coats of varnish before re-assembly. At the same time we have taken some of the interior locker doors off and are giving them touch-ups where necessary.

On board we have attacked the capping rail – the curved teak rail that surrounds the boat and is the final barrier before falling overboard! We have stripped all of the varnish off and taken it back to bare wood. We are now on coat number seven, with seven more to go, which will result in a quality protection for the season ahead, over a uniform shade of shiny teak.

More to come….
